Overview
This design is an automatic retracting cup holder. Wave your hand in front of the sensor and the tray slides out. Set your mug down, and the holder stays out as long as the cup is there. Take the cup away, and a 3-minute timer starts. If the cup doesn't come back before it runs out, the tray retracts on its own.
It's built as a self-contained mechanism, so you can drop it into whatever housing you want: a desk, a shelf, a table. Hide it however you like.
STL Files are available for download. Results may vary depending on your printer settings and accuracy. For reference, this was printed using a bambu A1 Mini Printer using PLA Filament and a 0.4 mm Nozzle. If fitment is a problem, please adjust printer settings or part scale until you find your desired tolerances.
***This is a DIY project. You're responsible for your own print quality, assembly, and how strong the load-bearing parts end up. It's holding liquid next to electronics, so test it with an empty cup first, and don't leave it unattended with a full one until you trust it. I'm not responsible for any spills or damages.
Build List:
From Printer:
1 - Servo Gear
1 - Slider Rail
1 - Button Holder
1 - Supporting Bar
1 - Cup Holder Bottom
2 - Side Support Bars
1 - Main Slider
1 - Rack Gear and Shell
Hardware or Non-Printed Parts: (Not Included)
1 - MG90S Continuous Serve (Make sure it is continuous and not angular!!)
1 - HC - SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor
1 - Standard Push Button or Limit Switch
1 - Indicating LED
1 - ESP32 Devkit C
8 - M3 x 8mm Screws (Or similar sized hardware)
About 20 - Jumper Wires (Various Ends)
3 - 10k Resistors
ONLY STL Files, Code, and Wiring Instructions Included with Download
Make sure cables/jumper wires don’t interfere with moving components. Test by moving the slider by hand. Also, make sure to not cover the ultrasonic sensor if you mount this inside an enclosure - you can convert that to a button if that is better for the application.
Assembly Required - Images available - Reach out with any questions or we can set up a call if necessary!!
